My Chemical Romance: Their Legacy

My Chemical Romance will have been parted for a year on March 22nd; and there are still fans who can’t believe the news and some fans who still think they are getting back together. The band – Gerard Way (vocals), Ray Toro (Guitar), Frank Iero (Guitar) and Mikey Way (bass) – inspired a generation of kids from 2001 to 2013 with their albums that played from different ends of the court; realistic and imaginary.

MyChemicalRomance2010DC081110Through their songs the band touched on such topics as the September 11th terrorist attacks, the reality of cancer, growing up in today’s society and loving yourself for who you are. As well as taking us on a colourful journey in to the comic book loving mind of Gerard Way; with their final studio album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. This album was an adventure from start to finish, with every song telling part of the story in the Killjoys’ (the persona of the band at the time) lives.

What better way to sign off the year of no MCR than with a greatest hits album by them, entitled May Death Never Stop You – a rather fitting title I think. The record takes songs from all four of the band’s studio albums – I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, The Black Parade and Danger Days… – and puts them together for one great CD. Although many fans will already have all of the albums, May Death… offers a previously unreleased track as well three demos and some stunning artwork which will be loved by fans thinking of adding this album to their collection.

May Death Never Stop You is a great name which clearly applies to the fans…they must still carry on even with out their favourite band.

The perfect way to say goodbye.

Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight

Quentin Tarantino’s success has constantly been going up with every film he releases; and it sky-rocketed after the release of his latest film, Django Unchained.

tarantinoThe director, who primarily uses dialogue and violence as the main aspects in his films, has had a go at many different genres. He’s made a heist film (Reservoir Dogs), two martial arts themed films (Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Kill Bill Vol. 2), a war film (Inglourious Basterds) and a western (Django Unchained), among others. Every movie has kept audiences gripped to the screen with its lengthy spoken parts and intense action sequences; which generally require buckets of blood.

Just over a year after the release of his last film and Tarantino is already planning for his 9th movie, which I am sure will have a lot of fans excited. However, although I am not disappointed by this, instead of attempted a different genre as he has done is the past, he has stated that he will be making another western.

The film is entitled The Hateful Eight and is not a sequel to Django Unchained. Tarantino’s reasoning for doing another western is because now that he has learnt how to make one, he wants to make another. Inspiration for the film has been taken from John Sturges’ famous western The Magnificent Seven (hence the name), and the film which inspired that; Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai (hence the name again).

Production, filming and casting are still a long way off, so not much is known about The Hateful Eight. Although rumours have surfaced that Tarantino has written a part specifically for Austrian actor Christoph Waltz, who took leading roles in his previous two films.

Marvel Movie News

Ant-Man Actor Chosen

An actor has finally been chosen to play Henry ‘Hank’ Pym in the 2015 Edgar Wright directed super hero film Ant-Man; the talented Michael Douglas has been chosen. Although recently Paul Rudd was in the news for being chosen to play the size-changing crusader, he has actually been cast to play Scott Lang; the hero who was given the abilities after Pym passed them on. It seems as though Wright is attempting to portray the time lines of both these ant-men, and, although the film is part of Marvel’s ‘Phase 3′, Pym is going to be linked differently to The Avengers; unlike in the comics in which he creates the artificial intelligence Ultron (the villain from the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron film). I wasn’t sure if Douglas was the right choice at first, mainly due to Hank Pym being much younger. However because of Douglas’ acting experience I’m sure he will pull it off flawlessly.

ant-manThe Amazing Spider Man 2 Characters

When I first heard about the Spider Man franchise being done again I wasn’t too thrilled; partly because I thought Tobey Maguire made an excellent Peter Parker. However I have to admit, Marc Webb did a great job with The Amazing Spider Man, and with the new characters and plot details I am nearly as excited as when I first heard that Marvel were going to bring The Avengers to the screen.

The-Amazing-Spider-Man-2-9If it’s not enough that two of the most famous Spidey villains from the comics are making an appearance in the sequel; Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Rhino (Paul Giamatti). But Harry Osborn (Dane DeHann) will also be brought back into Peter Parker’s world, and could possibly be appearing as the Green Goblin. Exciting right? Well there is some more news which will have fans of the comic books on the edge of their seats. Webb is planning on making more sequels to the franchise, and as you can imagine there will need to be a great story line to keep the audience entertained. One of which that is planned will contain the alien symbiote Venom, who appeared in the 2007 Spider Man 3. The other may be leading up to a ‘Sinister Six’ plot. Taken straight from the comics, the Sinister Six were a group of six super-villains who teamed up in an attempt to defeat Spider Man. The line-up did change throughout the years and I would imagine the original six would not be used for the films; however they were some of the most famous villains to ever grace the panels of a Spider Man comic: Vulture, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Sandman, Doctor Octopus and Mysterio.

Sinister_SixOn top of all that two of my favourite characters in the Marvel Universe are being introduced in The Amazing Spider Man 2; Felicia Hardy and Cletus Kasady, in other words Black Cat and Carnage. Both have played major roles in Peter Parker’s life, with the Black Cat rocking his world in more ways than one, and Carnage being one of his toughest villains due him being able to change form, heal himself and suck the life out of his victims. How they will be brought into the story, I don’t know, but I imagine Carnage (possibly being played by Jim Carrey) will either be part of the Sinister Six or be part of a later story line, and Black Cat could quite possibly help Spidey out when he has to take on all these villains.

carnageWhatever Sony decides to do with the franchise in the future, with all of these incredible characters it will surely be a sight to see.
